July 1952 - February 2014
I met Carolyn, of Carols Eclectic Designs, a couple of years ago when she became one of my Chic Barbie Design customers. After purchasing several of my outfits and sharing many e-mails back and forth, she asked if I would be interested in helping her put a wedding together. One of her dolls had tied the knot. Carolyn had a great imagination with so many wonderful ideas. She wanted to capture a photo of the wedding dress flowing in the breeze just as you would see at a real beach wedding. Just one of her many cool ideas.
While I was busy shopping and sewing the bridesmaids dresses, she was busy putting her new Etsy shop in order. In addition, she had created a blog (http://carolseclecticdesigns.blogspot.com/) where we all got to see her many talents in action in her creative dioramas. We also met some of her favorite dolls and learned of their trials and tribulations.
It’s funny when I think how I never actually heard Carolyn’s voice as we corresponded in e-mails, but in my mind I knew she sounded just like Reba…..yup, that be McEntire. Somehow, I also knew Carolyn talked fast and was always bubbling over with excitement and enthusiasm. Very contagious. If we had lived next door to each other when we were little girls, we’d have been the BESTest BARBIE FRIENDS EVER!!!
Time had passed and I hadn’t heard from Carolyn. I knew she’d been busy with real life drama and was going to get the wedding photos to me as soon as she had the time. Well, time went on and I hadn’t heard from her so one day I decided to google her name and town and that is when I sadly discovered she had passed away.
To Miss Carolyn,
Thank you for all the fun and joy you have given me and so many others in our dolly world. You will be forever missed. This poem is for you, my friend. XXXOOO
If tears could build a stairway
and thoughts a memory lane
I’d walk right up to heaven
and bring you home again
No Farewell words were spoken
No time to say good-bye
You were gone before I knew it
And only God knows why.
My heart’s still active in sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No one can ever know.
But now I know you want us
To mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store.
Since you’ll never be forgotten
I pledge to you today
A hallowed place within my heart
Is where you’ll always stay.
God knows why, with chilling touch,
Death gathers those we love so much,
And what now seems so strange and dim,
Will all be clear, when we meet Him.
I Knew you for a Moment
